The Lily Pads sure have had a busy last few weeks of the school year! The students received and signed their yearbooks, created a banner for the Achievement Ceremony, and worked so hard practicing their songs. The Lily Pads were so excited to get their medals and show their visitors their memory books and gardens. This week, the class has been trying out some different activities at Table Top and Choice Time; new favorites include Uno, Hullabaloo, bubble wrap, and bowling. The students also had a “car wash,” where they chose different toys and materials from around the classroom to clean with soap and water. Such a fun way to end the year with a SPLASH into summer!

The Lily Pad class is still growing strong learning about plants, flowers, and different herbs. The class worked together to pick the seeds out of various fruits and vegetables, painted their own garden boxes, explored the parts of a flower, and planted different herbs. Each Lily Pad continues to show responsibility by taking care of their garden. It has been amazing to watch our plants, flowers, and herbs begin to sprout! Ask your child to name the different parts of a plant and flower! Throughout the past week, the Lily Pad class has been exploring different seeds, plants, and the role of a gardener. The class took their knowledge to the streets for a nature walk. We worked together to find various types of plants, trees, flowers and bushes around our school community. Along the way, we were lucky to meet a gardener who taught us all about bulbs! The Lilypads were very excited to expand upon their blossoming knowledge and make connections to their surroundings. Our bean plants, flowers, and grass are beginning to sprout and the class is eager to see their growth each day. Be sure to ask your Lilypad about the parts of a plant or flower the next time you're on a walk! The Lily Pad class jumped right into the Spring season by beginning their new unit: planting. This past week, the class explored different kinds of seeds and soil. We learned that plants need sunlight, water, and time to grow! In science, the class explored bean seeds and even planted their own bean plant. The class is very excited to watch their plants grow. Our classroom garden will be continuing to "grow"...stay tuned! The Lily Pad class was very excited for their family members to visit the classroom and spend time with the bunnies. The class worked together and shared many responsibilities to take care of the bunnies, such as feeding them and helping clean the cage. The Lily Pads measured and weighed the bunnies observing them change over time and experimented with different fruits and vegetables for the bunnies to eat. We will miss the bunnies very much, but hope they have fun on the farm together! Early Monday morning our classroom bunnies arrived from the farm in Pennsylvania. The farmer introduced the mama bunny, Jolie, and her five babies. The farmer also showed the class how to take care of the bunnies by cleaning their cage, feeding them, and making sure they had enough water. On Monday the bunnies cage was covered by a blanket in order for them to acclimate to their new environment, but what fun we've had since we could get them out of their cage! The Lily Pad class has been very caring since the bunnies arrived each taking responsibility of their own bunny job. The bunny jobs include: the noise monitor, the sweeper, the water helper, the hay helper, the cage cleaner, the photographer, the feeder, and the reader. Throughout the week in science, Braque and the Lily Pads measured and weighed the bunnies, something we will do every week to observe the growth of the bunnies. This week, the baby bunnies were 9 inches long! Towards the end of the week, the class created an obstacle course to help the bunnies get some exercise! After spending some time with the bunnies and learning about each one, the class worked together to name each bunny. The names of the baby bunnies are: Whitey, Speedy, Bookbag, Thomas, and Paper Towel. The Lily Pads have been so responsible, helpful, and gentle with the bunnies. We are excited for the bunny adventures to continue...stay tuned! 'After lunch, the Lily Pad class hopped over to The Art Farm in New York City. The Lily Pads have been hard at work preparing for "The Mitten" play. The first step was to work together to decide which character each student would play. Then came daily rehearsals, including a practice run for The Apples, the classroom next door. The Lily Pads have also been working on the set and props in art with Kate, as well as in the classroom. Everyone is so excited to continue their hard work on the set and their lines. We cannot wait to share it with you all! Today the Lily Pad class had a cozy, exciting day wearing their pajamas to celebrate all of their reading at home. The class enjoyed art with Kate, singing and dancing in the music room, jumping on the trampoline, and reading a wintery book while drinking hot chocolate. Ask your child what his or her favorite activity was! |
