Last week The Lily Pads were introduced to their new class pet, Funny the Frog, a name we chose as a class. Funny was very curious about the classroom. The Lily Pads were helpful and showed Funny the different areas and materials in our classroom. After Funny was comfortable in the classroom, he was brave enough to venture out and join our special activities, Art with Kate and Music with Robert. Funny helped the Lily Pads make sculptures. The class even made Funny an apron so he wouldn't feel left out! In Music, Funny skated around with the class on paper plates while Robert played the guitar. The Lily Pads then decided that Funny needed a house in the classroom. After brainstorming what Funny might need in his habitat, the Lily Pads used different materials to create a comfortable and safe home for Funny to live in. Funny was so excited when he saw his new home and is even more excited to spend time with each Lily Pad and their family. Stay tuned for more Funny adventures with the Lily Pad class....:)

It was a short, but busy week leading up to the Thanksgiving Feast. The Lily Pad class thought about what they were thankful for and worked together to prepare the room for the feast. The class used their creativity to help make a banner for the classroom, leaves for the thankful tree and placemats. We hope you enjoy reading "There Were Some Lily Pads That Swallowed a Feast" at home during your fun and food filled Thanksgiving Break! The Lily Pad class was so busy floating from one activity to another this past week! The class learned about the different parts of a pumpkin and explored the inside of a pumpkin using their different senses. We counted the seeds and even measured different size pumpkins using unifix cubes. After a busy week exploring pumpkins, Gabby from Art Farm flew into The Lily Pad classroom on Friday with three different kinds of birds. The class was so gentle petting and holding the dove, chicken and parrot. The Lily Pad class also had a special visit from family members for Grandparent’s Day. The class had a blast coloring fall art pages, decorating pumpkins with stickers and markers, taking photos in the photo booth and singing fall songs. Ask your child what his or her favorite pumpkin activity was! Below is a song that the class learned this past week: I'm a Little Pumpkin I'm a little pumpkin orange and round I grow on a vine from a seed in the ground. When I get all group up, give me a face. Put me outside, in a very safe place! Today the Lily Pad class had a fun filled Friday! The class had a blast fishing for letters in bins of beans. Some students even found the letters of their name! The class also completed the "pom pom challenge" and used their fingers with alligator tweezers to get all of their pom poms into cups. After working so hard, the Lily Pad class leaped over to the park for some movement and fresh air. We played in the sandbox, went on the swings, played tag, and sat on a bench together. It was a fabulous end to a short week! It was a fun filled first week back at The Gillen Brewer School. The students were busy exploring and learning about the different areas of their new classroom. We enjoyed music with Robert, art with Kate, and science with Braque throughout the week. The class also enjoyed playing with new toys and games, dancing and singing songs, playing on the roof, and reading books! Ask your child at home what his or her favorite activity has been so far. Here are some pictures of the class diving into the new school year! |
